Sørlands Trykk og Grafikk offers four different types of garment printing. We offer Heat Transfer Vinyl printing, which is the most popular method. We also offer sublimation printing, DTF (Direct to film) printing which is a very new yet fast growing printing technique, and lastly we offer silk screen printing.

Heat Transfer Vinyl: (HTV) Is a process that involves cutting a design out of a large selection of colors and textured vinyl, and then heat pressing it onto garments using a professional heat press. Heat Transfer Vinyl is very durable and can last for a long time if cared for properly. However, over time, the vinyl may crack or peel if exposed to high heat or frequent washing. HTV is the most popular printing method we offer because of the low cost and the flexibility in ordering. There are no minimums. You can choose from a large assortment of colors and textures. When ordering under 100 pieces of a design that doesn’t have a substantial amount of detail, HTV proves to be the most cost effective choice. HTV can be used for custom clothing, bags and much more. Colors can be combined and also layered which makes the creativity using HTV nearly limitless.

Sublimation Printing: Sublimation printing is our second most popular method of printing. If you are looking for a printing method that can produce vibrant and long-lasting prints, sublimation is the perfect choice. Sublimation printing is popular as you can not only print on fabrics, but also on plastic, metal, ceramic, wood as well as glass.

What’s most exciting about sublimation printing is the ability to produce vibrant and detailed prints. Thanks to the high temperatures used in the process, the lines appear very sharp and the colors aren’t faded. An important thing to note about dye sublimation is that the ink isn’t just applied on top of the material. Instead, it’s absorbed right into the material, becoming an integral part of it. That’s why a sublimation print won’t fade or wash off, lasting much longer than a screen print or a DTF print. There are no minimum orders and the cost of each print is very affordable. The only downside of Sublimation printing is that it only works on 100% polyester or fabric blends that contain a high percentage of polyester. If you’re interested in cotton, silk, or leather garment printing, sublimation won’t be the right choice. Sublimation dyes simply won’t adhere to natural fibres or will quickly wash off. Sublimation’s only available for white or very light blank products.

DTF Printing:

(Direct to film) is our third most popular method of printing. It is quickly becoming more popular as many people are still unfamiliar with DTF printing. This technique involves printing your design directly onto a film and then transferring it to a T-shirt made of cotton, polyester, or their blends, regardless of their colour, as it can work with white ink. Right now, direct-to-film (DTF) printing is one of the most versatile techniques available in the print industry.

Most print methods are limited to a range of similar fabrics, like cotton and cotton-blended materials. With a DTF print, you can work with tougher fabric varieties like polyester, fleece, nylon, and of course, classic cotton.

DTF printing involves printing your design onto a piece of PET film (a special film with a coating that helps transfer designs) using water-based inks and a special powder adhesive. Then, the design on the PET film is heat transferred to fabric using a professional heat press machine. This printing method is durable and the designs come out very detailed and vibrant.

DTF printing works well with details as it doesn’t require separate layers for design elements or colors like in silkscreen printing. There are no minimums. In fact single prints are very much welcomed. If you have a large variety of designs you are looking to get printed on a variety of different garments, DTF printing is what we highly recommend.
